Dupplin
Aberdalgie and Dupplin estate, located
in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, presents a
staggering amount of acreage to be held
under joint ownership¹. Having resided on
the estate for the better part of 24 years,
this project marks a return for me, in which
I focus on the people, the places and the
property.
In 2004 the Scottish Parliament initiated
a Land Reform Plan, which was intended
to make it easier for small hold tenants to
buy the property on which they worked
and lived. Unfortunately this has created
a counter-movement with private owners
actively seeking to remove tenants who
appear to have the financial capabilities
of buying the land. This trend is evident
on the Estate with many smallhold farmers
making way for intensive contractors.
Despite the changes one aspect has
remained absolute; the people on
Abergalgie and Dupplin estate maintain
a symbiotic relationship. The tenants,
workers and owners all play a part in
this story, which is quickly becoming a
document of the past.

¹ The estate has been under ownership of Sir John
Alexander Dewar, of Dewar’s Whisky fame, since 1911.
He was ennobled as Baron Forteviot in 1916 and his
great, great grandson now resides over the grounds as
Lord Forteviot.
